Library commercial wins Best in Show at ASTRA awards
QandANJ.org video success inspires student videos
Gibbsboro,
NJ. (February 5, 2008) — QandANJ.org, New Jersey's 24/7 free, web-based question
answering service staffed by librarians across the state, is winning awards for
its commercial that was aired on MTV. The video, which can be seen at
www.QandANJ.org/mtv, won “Best in Show”
at the 2008 NJ CAMA ASTRA Awards ceremony, and also won an InfoTubey
Award, from Information Today, Inc., which
recognizes excellence in library-related YouTube productions.
The annual ASTRA Awards honor the best creative concepts, strategies, and design
work done by the communications, advertising and marketing community. Considered
one of the most prestigious communications honors in the New Jersey and Eastern
Pennsylvania community, NJ CAMA (The New Jersey Communications and Marketing
Association) awarded the QandANJ.org "Now Your Library is Open Late Night Too"
commercial the Gold for excellence in Public Service Advertising at their awards
banquet on April 3rd. Later in the evening the commercial also walked off with
the coveted “Best in Show” recognition.
“My
first surprise was winning ‘Best in Show', but what was even more exciting was
the reaction from the audience", commented Beth Cackowski, Project Coordinator
of QandANJ.org. "They loved the video and were very supportive with their
applause!”
Students who rely on QandANJ.org for homework help are now getting into the act,
producing their own short video commercials as part of a QandANJ.org YouTube
contest. The student videos are online at
http://www.QandANJ.org/contest and
the public can vote for their favorite through Friday, April 18th. Winners will
be selected on April 28, 2008. In addition to having their videos highlighted on
QandANJ.org, MySpace, and YouTube, contest finalists are eligible to win a
digital camcorder, an MP3 player or a Nintendo Wii.

Library service targets teens with MTV commercial.
QandANJ.org commercial debuts during MTV Video Music Awards
Gibbsboro,
NJ. (September 10, 2007) — QandANJ.org, New Jersey's 24/7 free, web-based
question answering service staffed by librarians across the state, debuted
its first television commercial on Sunday night during the MTV Video Music
Awards, airing in all New Jersey markets. The commercial can also be viewed
online at http://www.qandanj.org/mtv.
QandANJ.org
is one of the busiest statewide answer services of its kind. Launched in
2001, librarians staffing QandANJ.org answer questions of all types from New
Jersey residents at any time of the day or night. "Fifty percent of our
questions come from students, so it just made sense to put QandANJ.org in a
place where teens would see it. Why not MTV during the MTV Video Music
Awards?”, said Beth Cackowski, QandANJ.org's Project Coordinator.
QandANJ.org
is a free online library service that allows users to chat live with a
librarian for help with research projects, homework, or general questions
ranging from health to business, DIY to trivia. The service is available to
all New Jersey residents, and is heavily used and valued by teens.
"We know
teens love the service" says Cackowski, "because we receive thousands of
customer comments every year, and they tell us things like: ‘I luv this
site—it’s amazing!’ and ‘The [QandANJ.org] librarians are the best! Thanks
for your help! My homework is finished!’”
